Exness · Funding the account
How money moves in and out of an Exness account
Exness charges no broker fee on withdrawals and covers third-party fees, so the cost question on the payment side sits with your bank and your currency, not with the broker. For a South African trader, that changes which rail you should use — and it changes what a withdrawal actually returns to you.

The rail that most rand deposits take
Instant EFT through open-banking gateways is the dominant local funding route, and deposits on it usually clear instantly and free. The local banks in that picture are FNB, Absa, Standard Bank, Nedbank and Capitec. Withdrawals back along the same route typically take one to two business days. This is the one part of the funding picture that is marked for verification rather than settled, so treat the timing as indicative rather than a promise.
Cards clear in two to five days, and international SWIFT wires in three to five. Neither is wrong, but both put days between you and your money, and days matter if you are holding a position through the rollover.
The conversion you pay for without seeing it
A rand base account avoids the roughly 2–3% ZAR-to-USD conversion that banks charge. That figure is the one to keep in mind when you compare funding options, because it is charged by the bank, not by Exness, and it does not appear on any trading cost table.
This is where the gold question meets the funding question. If you trade XAU/USD, the instrument is priced in dollars regardless of what your account is denominated in. A rand account does not remove currency exposure — it removes one conversion step on the way in and out. Whether that step was costing you anything is a question about your bank's rate, not about the broker's spread.
What has to be true before a withdrawal clears
Withdrawals are not a separate mechanism from margin. Margin call triggers at 60% on Standard and at 30% on Pro, Zero and Raw Spread, and stop out sits at 0% across the board. A position that is close to those levels can be closed before you get to the withdrawal screen, which is the practical reason funding rules and risk rules belong on the same page.
Hedged margin is 0%, so a fully hedged position does not consume margin — but a hedged position is still two positions paying their own costs.
Funding sits behind segregated accounts in tier-1 banks, with PCI DSS certification and 3D Secure. That is the custody side of the question, and it is separate from the licence side: Exness ZA (PTY) Ltd holds FSCA FSP 51024, and that is the entity a South African client should be checking when money is on the line.
Costs that follow the money after it lands
The deposit is the cheap part. What you pay afterwards depends on the account. Standard and Pro carry no commission, with spreads from 0.2 and 0.1 pips respectively. Zero charges from 0.05 USD per lot per side, and Raw Spread up to 3.50 USD per lot per side, so a completed trade pays twice.
On gold specifically, Standard shows an XAU/USD spread of 0.26 USD, which is 26 USD per lot. XAU/USD also carries a swap of -53.49/0 pips on positions held past rollover. If you are the kind of trader who funds an account, opens a gold position and holds it for a week, the swap line matters more than the deposit rail ever will.
| Account | Spread from | Commission |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 0.2 pips | none |
| Pro | 0.1 pips | none |
| Zero | 0 pips | from 0.05 USD per lot per side |
| Raw Spread | 0 pips | up to 3.50 USD per lot per side |
Questions traders ask about funding
Does Exness charge anything to withdraw?
No broker fee, and third-party fees are covered by Exness. What your own bank does with an incoming transfer is a separate matter and outside the broker's control.
Can I deposit with Instant EFT and withdraw the same way?
Instant EFT is the dominant local funding route and withdrawals along it typically take one to two business days. The timing detail is flagged for verification, so confirm it before relying on it for a date.
Why does my rand account still leave me exposed to the dollar?
Because XAU/USD is quoted in US dollars. A rand base account avoids the roughly 2–3% conversion banks charge on the way in and out, but it does not change the currency the instrument is priced in.
Can margin rules stop a withdrawal?
Yes, indirectly. Margin call triggers at 60% on Standard and 30% on Pro, Zero and Raw Spread, with stop out at 0%. A position closed at stop out is money that never reaches the withdrawal step.
Is a swap-free account available?
Islamic accounts are available on all account types, and swap-free is offered as an option by most major brokers. For South Africa the demand is niche rather than a primary market driver, so treat it as an option to ask about rather than a default.
